I am using this book this year at UCLA in the mathematics department for our Math 3ABC series. WE are 'trying it out " ....I am using it for my students only in my lectures , Math 3A, Math 3B and Math 3C . And we are evaluating the book for possible adoption.
First of all, any one who says this book is "s--t " is not expressing his viewpoint very well , it seems sort of lazy and that is perhaps what this person is . It could also be the case that they have never been taught how to disagree without using these useless phrases .....or they have never been taught how to disagree with intelligence. Poor student ....will never get anywhere being such a sad sort of person who can only complain with such words.
I find the book interesting, fun, full of GREAT ideas and very motivating . My students have 85% of the the time said they like the book because it is easy to read and follow, the problems are explained in GREAT detail, the meaning of mathematics is made VERY clear , and they see the answer to " Why do we need to know this ?" . The examples are so excellent ! And they relate to the biology examples very well.
I am so enthusiastic about this book , I am going to recommend the adoption to my department within a few weeks. It has been a GREAT success for my students and me.
OK, some errors always occur in a first edition, But I have a list of them ( short list ) and I will send them to the publisher. But his Book is very , very excellent and I want to use it AGAIN. ! So, to say it short, GREAT CALC textook for LIFE SCIENCES !!!!

Do not recommend

I am a student in a class where this book is being tried out and from my point of view it is a very poor textbook. First problem is the high cost for what it is. I'm fine paying $200 ($150+ $50 for a student solutions book) for pre-med textbooks but typically when I put in that type of money I also get online practice and a better product in the book. The drill problems are poorly worded and the solutions in the student manual (which is probably the biggest scam of this bundle) do not do a good job explaining how solutions are reached. The only reason that I can do the drill problems is because they mirror the examples almost verbatim but, again, the examples do a poor job explaining the logic behind procedures. I've had much better calculus textbooks in the past, but then again I still hope that this one is adopted purely so that I can sell it to the poor bastards that take this class next year.
I'll admit that my professor publicly stated tin class hat she knew the authors which may have biased me against it, but I honestly hated it before she told us that as well.

Carefully written and beautifully produced book

I am writing this comment in response to the "Terrible Textbook" comment posted on March 31, 2014. I am one of the authors and, to date, many of our colleagues who have evaluated this book like it very much and plan to use it in their classrooms. It is true that on page 463, in Problem Set 6.3, we inadvertently had the units mg/h instead of mg/L in three of the stated problems. This has now been corrected in the electronic version of the book. It is not true, however, that the answer to #31 on page 489 is incorrect. All the material in the book has been thoroughly checked several times over by three authors and paid readers. It is very difficult in a 700+ page calculus text, with literally hundreds of places on each page where an error can occur, to be completely error free; but we have worked very hard to try and find all errors and believe our text is virtually error free. Curiously, given the tone, profanity, and unfounded accusations of laziness in the aforementioned review, for some reason the reviewer seems to be very angry. If you are interested in this text for your class, please contact our Editors at Wiley and request a review copy -- and then judge for yourself. I am confident you will find our book is a carefully and beautifully produced contribution that may well serve the needs of your students better than the several excellent competing life science calculus texts that are currently available.
