About the Author
Born in Sacramento, CA, Julie Kagawa moved to Hawaii at the age of nine. There she learned many things; how to bodyboard, that teachers scream when you put centipedes in their desks, and that writing stories in math class is a great way to kill time. Her teachers were glad to see her graduate.

"Soldier" the exciting and gripping third book in the "Talon" series continues as Talon and St. George hunt for the rogues Ember Hill, Riley (aka ex-Basilisk Cobalt) and the soldier Garret Xavier Sebastian. The story picks up when Garret journeys to England the home of the Order of St. George and its Patriarch only to uncover a deadly secret and treacherous coalition that will shake the foundations of both organizations. When he discovers a plan to entrap and kill Ember and Riley, Garret engages the help of a new ally with the hope of returning in time to save the two rogue dragons.
After his dismal failure in capturing his sister Dante is enlisted by Talon to work on a secret project that will not only bolster their dragon army, but could mean the massacre of humanity. Although plagued by conscience Dante will do anything in his power to rise in Talon's hierarchy, and in fulfilling his duty will learn a shocking truth.
Set against a background of war between dragons and dragonslayers, odds against the rogues surviving the escalating clash mount as they learn a dangerous secret behind the growing number of attacks by the soldiers of St. George that could destroy Riley's underground network. Woven into this fascinating page-turner Garret's past and his training as a soldier after the death of his parents are revealed, giving new insight into his dedication to the Order and his beliefs before awakening to the truth of both.
One of the themes of this story centers around the fragility of life as dragonslayer missions escalate even attacking a peaceful temple, with a secret alliance that forces an agonizing decision, as well as the brutality of Talon's cloning scheme to supplement their breeding facilities. This plot is fast-paced and action-packed as Ember, Riley and Garret escape entrapment, raid a library, and are confronted with a deadly duel. Each new twist in the plot fuels the intensity and suspense until culminating in a shocking ending that begs for another novel.
And amid all the violence and turmoil Ember is faced with an agonizing decision about her feelings for Garret and Riley; one possessive and protective, the other conflicted and tormented. Yet as she struggles an Eastern Dragon adds a further complication to her emotional turmoil when she's told of the "Sallith'tahn" , a dragon's instinct to find their life-mate; an inclination thought eliminated by Talon to ensure the dragons devotion to their cause. But in a story that revolves around choices, Ember is determined to make her own decision about who to love which could have tragic repercussions in a world where death is never far away and the price of freedom is costly.
Ember Hill who's sick of all the killing, yearning for peace between dragons and humans continually matures as the series progresses. Stubborn, smart and resourceful she begins to accept the consequences of her life as a rogue. Like all the characters in this series Ember's personality continues to grow as she not only faces Talon's conniving manipulation in the war but is wounded again by St. George's soldiers. Brash and defiant Riley (aka the dragon Cobalt) is steadfast in his determination to protect his safe houses and the hatchlings. Hot-tempered, brash he's also cunning, brave and honourable, never yielding to his temptation to kill his rival. In contrast Garret Sebastian is a steady, unshakable soldier who wants to make amends for the blood he spilled. Frustrated and hurt when he left for England, his love and respect for Ember is constant, never changing. All these characters and many more like the serene, practical and empathetic Eastern dragon Jade; the arrogant and devious Patriarch; and Ember's ambitious but conflicted brother Dante continue to add power and passion to the evolving action and drama.
I give "Soldier" the third book in this highly imaginative and captivating series high praise I'm looking forward to the next story by this talented writer.

Bring on, Legion!

Seriously, the end, not only shook me up but left me panting like a dog in heat for more! I have a love/hate relationship with endings like this. I loved how it went but hate that I have to wait.
I liked the action in this one best of the three books so far. The romance was kind of on the back burner as the dragons and humans fought. Like, really fight in an all out war. But where it leads is what's cool.
Nothing like I expected, and that's a good thing, and yet still predictable in parts that worked.
I love this series, and can't wait to continue. Sad I have to anyway.
You really should read this if you like dragons. You will be thoroughly entertained.

Julie Kagawa never disappoints

Julie Kagawa never disappoints. Book 3 of the Talon saga continues to build on the world, as we're moved beyond the small town feeling in book 1 and even Las Vegas in book 2. It's a whole new ball game with Garret doing his investigation on the Order in England and running into new and exciting characters I won't spoil here, but I will say that we get a chance to see much more diverse dragons than just those within Talon or the rogue group. The character relations continue to be dynamic and interesting on all levels (though I have to say I could do without the love triangle), with Dante and Garret ending up as two characters I look forward to reading most about. Cannot wait for book 4!
