Attacked by both sides

I'd heard about the book from a conservative friend who read about it in the New York Times. He was seething over the idea and just hated this Reed, who he called a Marxist. A few weeks later, I was talking to an actual Marxist, who also was seething over Reed's novel. So, being a reasonable fellow, I decided to take a look. And I loved it. Totally rational assesment of what's going on. A must read.

The future of Animal Farm is sub-prime home loans for all and sequined mangers--Animal Fair! Need I say more? I do. John Reed is wicked smart. He's wicked. And smart. And not wrong. When every young girl dreams of becoming the next big dancing chicken, and the pigs are still running the show, it's time to be very afraid and seriously funny.

ahead of its time...?

It's really not ahead of its time, but this book will one day be recognized for its very accurate depiction of contemporary society. I'm still baffled that it is not discussed in more forums/schools/universities. But I imagine, at some point, it will be. So, be ahead of the curve, read it now. Even if you hate it, you will enjoy figuring out why you hate it.

Easier and more profound than ever.

With the help of the knowledge that you will find between the covers of The Secret of Quantum Living, the third book from Frank Kinslow, there's a great chance that your life will be transformed. Not the wild, rollercoaster ride kind of transformation, but a gentle and peaceful kind that brings joy to all parts of life.
I have explored a number of healing techniques and have seen many interesting and pleasing results from all of them. Nothing, however, has impressed med quite as much as the method dr Kinslow has developed. Nausea and sickness getting replaced by a sense of peace, Fibromyalgia pain vanishing in minutes and severe calcification and deformation of a persons back and neck normalising over night, after twelve years of constant pain - a few examples from the past few months. But spectacular healing events aside, the most important part seems to be the sense of peace and wellbeing that comes with the application of this method. I've had the pleasure of meeting mr Kinslow and he seems to emit a sort of strange wellbeing that inspires healing in the people he encounters. Read this book and find out what it's all about. A hint: It's about doing nothing and watching everything getting done for you, leaving you laughing in the process.

Amazing System!!! Can't Say Enough!!!

I am awestruck at how easy this system is, and is by far more effective and powerful than the energy healing work i used to do...and that was awesome!

I was able to master the technique in two evenings of just following the directions in the book. I soon began to help others with it, as the author aptly suggests, and found a lot of feed-back returning to me from people saying that little "miracles" were showing up in their lives, on many levels. I am trying to maintain a list, but it's hard to keep up!

My only criticism is that the way the theory is presented in this book gets way too convoluted. Funny, though, when my mind was just preparing to snap, over it, Dr. Kinslow pretty much wrote not to worry about it, because the tech will work anyway! He also has a video out on YouTube that explains it simply and clearly!

QE, added to two or three other mainstays in my life, let me know that a human can reach full potential in one life-time and make a huge difference in their world, powerfully and pleasurably!

Yes there ARE short-cuts in life, and this is one of them!

Truly, a masterpiece. This book starts you in spiritual practice as you are reading it. Dr. Kinslow explains the most difficult matters in simple words and we, at last, understand those subjects that always were eluding us. It is a book charged with energy. When I reached page 25 I was full of enthusiasm. The exercises are crystal clear explained and very simple to do. Buy this book. It will change your life.

A must read - over and over

This book is definitely vital for understanding the history and growth of the world as we know it... it raises many questions and makes you really think about what you are doing and whether it is for better or for worse of our earth. Intense read and needs to be read more than once because there is just so much to learn.

Still timely, twenty plus years later

People got impatient with Fuller because he kept throwing out a timeline which went something like this: if we work like crazy for the next 10 years, we might solve some of the major problems we've always put up with, e.g. death by starvation to take a big one.

Then another decade goes by, and a lot more people starve, and people shake their heads thinking "Bucky, Bucky... he just didn't have a clue, did he?" Well, I say he most certainly did. Not his problem or fault that we never staged his "design science decade" with such concerted effort and focus. And the potential to improve our collective lot aboard Spaceship Earth is still real.

What's fun about 'Grunch of Giants' is it marks the end of a long trajectory, where the 'real Bucky' finally hits the water, after the decades-long arc of a canon ball. He makes a big splash, and sets up a lot of ripple effects, many of which we're feeling to this day.

The main thing is he reawakens threads around the issue of corporate personhood, questioning how LLCs got to be "persons" in the eyes of the law. Decades later, Thom Hartmann starts to uncover some answers in 'Unequal Protection' which deserves to show up as a kind of sequel to 'GofG' on many levels.

Countering a soulless march to oblivion, an automatic pilot response to a desperate situation, were heroics, integrity, and the more agile networks. Readers may spontaneously think of the Internet (still in its infancy when this book came out -- no web to speak of), but I also think of networks like CBS, a corporation to be sure, but with a lot of life in it (not soulless).

Bucky was aware of his image through the years, how people saw him. He started out as a kind of benign Buck Rogers, one of those mad inventors coming up with wacky futuristic designs, and making comforting noises about utopian possibilities. But in the meantime the Cold War had gotten going in earnest, followed by a backlash in the 1960s and 1970s, with a new generation finding that Sword of Damocles (the ongoing prospect of immanent nuclear holocaust) entirely unacceptable. The USA became radicalized, as Colby confronted Congress with crazy-making testimony regarding Vietnam, as John Kerry squared off against the Westmoreland types, as colleges projected 'Hearts and Minds' to shocked audiences (1974). Fuller kept going, incorporating all these developments, and coming back with 'Critical Path'. Plus he floated World Game. Increasingly, he had to be taken seriously, less as a harmless crackpot entertainer (like the guy in the 'Six Flags' ad campaign), and more as a serious revolutionary thinker, with difficult-to-sort-out ties to the CIA (E.J. Applewhite, his lead collaborator on 'Synergetics' was an associate of Helms, another Yale grad, and former Deputy Inspector General of the agency -- as the back of the paperback edition of 'Synergetics' made sure we knew).

Indeed, the CIA figures prominently in GofG, which is part of what sets it apart as more "realistic" than some of his earlier poetry. Stocks and bonds, treasury bills, prominent figures of the day mentioned by name -- it seemed like Bucky was finally intersecting our special case reality, at some odd angle, true, but that just added to the uncanny feel of the book. Plus it's very literary, alluding to Orlando Furiouso, which in turn links to Orlando, Florida and the giant BuckyBall at EPCOT: Spaceship Earth. To top it all off, around the same time this book was declaring the USA we have known "bankrupt and extinct," Reagan and company decide this'd be the right time to give Fuller a Medal of Freedom. Shortly after, Fuller dies. 'Cosmography' was posthumous.

This is Bucky at the top of his game in my opinion, a great work of literature. I'm surprised it's not on more college syllabi, as it's quite short and readable, yet opens onto a huge number of threads both into history and mythology. Mythology is about both the very distant past and the very distant future (Fuller thought they sort of came together, given his eternally regenerative universe model), and 'Grunch of Giants', like 'Synergetics' itself, is very definitely a major work in the humanities. Five stars for Bucky.

Bucky expounds

If you've never read Buckminster Fuller's writings, you've missed out on one of the most remarkable minds of the 20th century. Yes, he invented the geodesic dome and laid out the principles for some kinds of tensile structures. He was also a tireless inventor. He did not necessarily create something fundamentally new each time, but always sought out more value for the dollar and pound of resources, and always measured that value in quality of human life. Except for the dome, his developments are often paraded and quixotic oddities, stripped of Fuller's real intent. This brief book lays out his philosophy for human welfare in terms of national and trans-national economics.

His thinking is clear and gentle - human happiness always comes first. It comes across in a whirwind of ideas, racing across the page faster than words can keep up. It's not rare to see a sentence start with economics and finish with stellar thermodynamics. You'll also sentences wildly stretched to hold just one of his ideas in complete form. Two consecutive sentences stretch from page 8 to 12! Even English words are too small to hold the atoms his ideas, so he creates the most startling hypenated word-collages. For example, in discussing how tools grew out of and extend the body, he writes:

"Nests and eggs are indeed tools, as is the womb -

an only-once-in-a-while, carried-within-mammalian,

new-life-production tool."

Social criticism, economics based in the physical world, tempered technological optimism, and a wonderful heart - they're all here, wrapped in a unique package of words. Whether or not you agree with his "economics of wealth", as opposed to "economics of scarcity," it's a remarkable view of human society.

A wonderful book for those of us who beleive in balance.

I just finished reading this book and loved it. It's not for the faint of heart "fluffy bunnies and rainbows" kind of witches.This book delves into the territory of the gray... not light... not dark but the true balanced of both. This book had very good information that I have not found else where in dealing with life and power and knowing when to use it. Its about balance and not just always having to turn the other cheek and accept the bad but being proactive and not being afraid to take a stand when it's necessary.It's written well with the strong cautions to what you send out as well. I say its a must have.. I am glad i bought it.Finally a book that says its ok to fight back when it's proper, and learning about when its time to be a little more gray!

I wish I could say I wasn’t disappointed. For one

I had high hopes for this book. I really did. After reading the pages available as a preview, and going through the reviews available on Amazon, I was excited! Finally, a book that took (what I believe to be) a realistic perspective on Witchcraft – that all parts of it are to be respected, not feared.

I wish I could say I wasn’t disappointed. For one, its short. Less than 200 pages. (If I had the ability to focus I once did, I could read it in one sitting.) For another, it doesn’t really address Gray Witchcraft. It reads like a basic introduction to Witchcraft for the average seeker rather than someone who’s experienced in the Craft and wants to dive a little deeper into areas not typically covered.

I can appreciate her opening with “Magickal Principles” and a “Code of Ethics” for us “gray witches”, but that doesn’t even cover a full dozen pages. After that, it’s discussion on some symbols, and basic Witchcraft beliefs.

I understand this is titled as a Grimoire, so I’m not taking issue with the fact the rest of the book is full of correspondences. However, they are correspondences that can be found with just a few keystrokes on Google, with no real link to the concept of Gray Witchcraft.

That being said, there are a few things in the book that I think are missing from most basic Wicca/Witchcraft books on the market today – but again, nothing really specific to Gray Witchcraft. It was neat seeing how the author viewed Initiation, as that almost always ends up being a contentious subject. I enjoyed her take on how one experiences initiation not being a part of a group. I also enjoyed how she expanded on “The Metaphysical Laws of Witchcraft.” Again, something I think most books on Witchcraft are missing, but nothing special to the Gray Witch.

To wrap this up, I’ll say this: I think Amythyst Raine had a great idea, but the execution could have been done much better. The book itself is a good book – not something I would sit down and read, but definitely something I would still use as a quick reference as it has a lot of good information. If you are looking for a book that might actually be a good reference for the Gray Witch, I’d strongly suggest you search elsewhere.

I just bought the book and am currently reading it. A few years ago a friend gave me a nickname of NJtheGrey, and I've lived up to the name. I truly have enjoyed what I've read so far, so much so that I've decided to write this review. It is well written and tells it like it is. The way it should be. Hard and Fast by Sean Wolfe

It's strange because I think this was supposed to be plain erotica, but I actually found it rather romantic and sometime even sweet. Of course my favourite stories are those of the episcopal priest who finds love in the surf boy (The Collar) and the other one about the middle thirty guy who, still mourning the sudden death of his partner of 7 years, is able to find love again in his high school first crush (They Call Me Mr. Tripp)

As expected most of the stories are highly sexy (and sexual) in content, sometime even kinky (like the story of the high school twins/twinks who love each other and like to make fun of their more dumb fellow students (Pool Party) or that of the "southern bell" boy who is able to jostle both an Union than a Confederate lover (The Plantation), but in between the sex, indeed the author manages to always make his guys fall in love, Hard and Fast indeed.

The leading story is that of good boy Axom (The Good Boy), who is a classic example of good kid in the house, and kinky boy out of it: in his experience as high school and college boy, Axom manages to seduce, or being seduced, by his youth counsellor priest, the college private guard, a multi-millionaire and one of his teacher, most of these relationship with bad consequences for the partners, but leaving Axom mostly unscathed.

In any case all the stories are like little novel, each of them carefully crafted in details and development. Really good anthology and I wouldn't mind to read a long novel by this author, maybe the development of The Collar?

Quick short sexy stories !!

This collection of hard and fast sex scenarios is pretty good. I didn't like The Pool. That story was incest (no thank you) between two twin brothers, creeped me out, so I quit reading that one. The others varied in their couples. I liked The Collar, well written and interesting. Quick short stories for before bed, or on lunch time. ENJOY !!!

About the Author

Excellently creepy, as I enjoy from Cherie Priest!

This is a very, very creepy tale, of the "possessed building" trope.

It is not altogether clear how cutting down the jacaranda tree- important as it was to the island- caused this evil entity to take up residence- and it's a very specific entity, with precise requirements that to me did not jibe with the history of the tree.

That being said, it's a minor quibble in the face of an excellently creepy novel, that kept me page-turning long after i ought to have been asleep!

The characters are very well-drawn, and feel real. The plot builds and is is very creepy indeed. Not everything gets explained. Although this is in her "Clockwork Century" setting, most of it has little overlap with the rest of the books therein, so this is fine to read even if you've read nothing else in that setting.

That being said, it is closer in length to a novella than a novel, so the price for the physical version is rather high. The production values were excellent, though, and this is one of the few books I've read this year that did not have copy-editing errors- high praise!

Cherie Priest is an awesome author, and this book stands up to the qualities I expect from her works.
This story takes place many years after the main works in the Clockwork Century, with only minor reference to the earlier adventures.
If you have read the Clockwork Century and liked it, then definitely read Jacaranda. If you have read her other works, but not the Clockwork Century, then read Jacaranda anyway--there are no spoilers if you read Jacaranda before the Clockwork Century novels. In feel it is more like her horror than her steam punk.

This is set in the world of Priest's Clockwork Century but despite some cool gadgetry and Ranger Korman as a main character, this does not fit into the Clockwork Century world. It is a spooky story written in Priest's beautifully lyrical style. I recommend it, but be warned that it is not quite what one might expect.

A Good starter’s book but not the best one!

### Advantages:
# Good Value for Money: The combined package, i.e. the book + free online GRE Course, is a very good tool to have for a beginner.
# Its greatest merit lies in its Chapters Reviews. The chapters are covered in great detail and are bolstered with a large number of solved examples. The text is quite extensive and exhaustive.
# The answers to the practice questions, in the book, are very detailed and useful. If trivial errors are the bane of your preparation then this book is quite a nifty tool for you.
# Stress on Vocabulary: There is a significant amount of stress on vocabulary building. This is the greatest edge that it has over its competition.

### Disadvantages:
# Difficulty level of questions, specifically in the Quantitative section, could have been better. The practice test set questions are not at par with the Questions by ETS or Manhattan.
# Topics Probability and Statistics are poorly covered! This is a major challenge with the book. These topics have a significant presence in the GRE test however they have been neglected in the book.
# Lack of tests. There are two tests (paper) in the book and a diagnostic test online. However most of other books offer more number of tests and also of better quality.
# Testing analysis tools leave much to be desired for! When compared to the test given by Princeton or Manhattan or Kaplan the test analysis tool falls short.
# Very average AWA section: The coverage of AWA section is not at par with any other top books available in the Market!

Overall it is a balanced book and decent value for money. However, it is not sufficient by itself, if the user wants to score more than 315 points especially not for AWA section. If you are looking to score higher on the GRE you must consider other books. It is highly advisable that you look into ETS GRE as they have actual GRE Questions.

~~~What are some of the other study options that I have?~~~
Some students, in the past, have bypassed Barron’s completely and started more specialized books such as the ETS or Manhattan GRE. For example, Manhattan GRE Set of eight strategy guides come with 8 books that target specific math and verbal areas. You would have a much better shot at scoring 315+ using this (not guaranteed), however they require 2-3 months to complete. ETS has a similar collection of 3 books (general + quantitative + verbal). They also have four tests on CD rom enclosed along with the package.

~~~What is a good study plan using Barron’s GRE?~~~
Since it is a good book for beginner’s, I would recommend that you could start with Barron and finish it within a month, then evaluate which are your areas of strength/ weakness. Based on your analysis you can invest in a book by Manhattan/ ETS to bolster your weaknesses. If probability and Statistics is not your strong suite you will need to refer to another book.

~~~Will this get me to 315+?~~~
This book alone, probably, won’t get you to 315+ score; but for people out of college it would refresh the math and verbal fundamentals. You should seriously consider investing in ETS as they provide you with questions that have appeared in GRE before.

A pretty good one-book GRE guide

I'm a long-time GRE tutor. This book is a good choice if you only use one book in addition to the ETS books, but don't expect it to solve all your GRE problems (as it claims it will).

The authors of this book clearly have taken their task seriously: the book feels professional and it's fairly comprehensive. I'll separate this review into three components: content, technique, and practice material.

Content: all question types and nearly all math concepts are covered and explained. The list of vocab words is good, but "high-frequency" means "high-frequency" on PAST GRE tests. Don't expect these words to show up on the GRE you take - they may or may not.

Technique: I like most of the techniques offered for math and verbal, but for verbal, students should be aware that they'll need to refine and experiment with things like how to read passages and proving their answers. I thought the essay technique was okay, but it needs more depth: most of my students really need a primer on how to construct each part of their essays.

Practice material: the GRE-style practice questions and tests are good, but not great. Real GRE questions are more tougher; they're more complex and wordy.

Overall, this book is a good guide to your study and analysis of real ETS GRE questions. Just don't believe the back of the book which claims that this is the "only book you will need to get the score you want". That's marketing, not reality. To really score high, you will most likely need more: more vocab, more math practice, refined verbal technique, more computer practice tests, and better essay advice.

Good prep book for math

Good prep book for math, but comparatively wimpy on verbal. The level of difficulty of the questions is similar to the Official GRE books. I would suggest getting the official books and using this book to augment your prep. I bought it for a class. Definitely recommend taking a class for anyone wishing to take the GRE, especially since our instructor had some better strategies than the ones offered in this book.Also this book is virtually identical to the 20th Edition, but with changed font/typeface formatting.

a nice ending

the series is finally over. i've been reading it since 2003. there are just as many japanese in jokes as the previous ones that dont all translate well, but the back section tries to cover most of them.
i'm sad to see the series go but am glad they ended it now. it gets a little evangelion weird in the middle where its hard to keep track of whats going on but it concludes well enough.

since i've been reading this since the beginning, at first each character seemed a bit one sided but after 27 volumes, they're each given a chance to grow and show different sides. the humor has always been weird, punny, and irreverant but thats what made the series great.

Finally my collection is complete!

The final volume in a eons long saga! The Saga of Excel!
Utterly mind blowing conclusion to this series. Of course if you have read even one volume you should buy this! Though be warned the entire last volume includes just about every character from the previous 26! So a LOT of jokes and important plot points can be missed if you weren't an avid reader of Excel Saga.

A fitting end to a wacky series.

If you're like me, you love the mood whiplash in Excel saga, and there's certainly no shortage of that. But beyond the tone and characterization being consistent, there's a very interesting finale that I think is the best way to cap off the story. Everything is wrapped up in a way that only the world and characters of Excel Saga can handle. It was worth the wait.
